## Bully Kutta

The Bully Kutta is a dog breed from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. Historically used for hunting, guarding, and fighting, this breed has garnered interest in the big dog community due to its unique characteristics and lack of formal pedigrees. Breeders maintain lineage records, but there are no official pedigrees.

In Punjab, females are prized as guardians while males are favored for fighting. I chose females since I am not interested in fighting and prefer less dog-aggressive pets.

My first Bully Kutta was Chandi, imported from India. Chandi loved my daughter Chase, suggesting the breed may be good with children. Unfortunately, Chandi passed away. My second Bully Kutta, Zina, came from a friend in California who runs Bully Kutta International.

My experience with the Bully Kutta has revealed their handler-soft nature. Being handler-soft means they overreact to corrections or accidental actions like stepping on a foot — this makes them easier to control but requires a gentle, respectful approach. Crate training was initially challenging with Zina — she would scream and urinate — but she adapted within one to two weeks. Zina was very good with my other dogs and family. While any mastiff, especially those with a fighting background, can react aggressively if provoked, Zina was remarkably social and tolerant. Zina's suspicion of strangers could develop into aggression as she matured, aligning with reports of the breed's protective nature.
